Usui is the first name of the founder of Reiki. His complete name is Usui Mikao, he was a Buddhist. Doctor Usui was fond of studying Sanskrit and Tibetan scrolls, his students called him Usui Sensei or Dr. Usui. He often spent most of his hours in Kyoto Japan atop (Mount Kurama) meditating. Today, Usui’s Reiki is already very popular, thanks to its founder.
Before Usui founded Reiki, he was into Rei Jyutu Ka. The group is dedicated in increasing psychic abilities and in conducting esoteric practices. Traditional monasteries look down on the activities of the Rei Jyutu Ka. Usui was enlightened when he became a member of the group. He synthesized Esoteric Buddhism with the Chinese and Indian medicines. He came up with his own healing brand which is Universal Healing Light. In this healing practice, channeled energy was responsible for healing. With Reiki, change is introduced directly in the subtle body or the soul level. Conventional medical treatments address the physical manifestations of an illness but in Reiki, energies found inside the body are corrected and such energies are realigned to achieve balance. Reiki practitioners believe that an illness or medical problem is brought about by imbalanced energies inside the body and by realigning them, the illness can be cured.
In a very short time, Usui Reiki was accepted in Japan. Doctor Usui traveled to share his skills and at the same time, he performed Reiki Empowerments. An association was set up and it was named ‘The Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai’. Until now, the association exists and it teaches all the principles and beliefs of Usui Mikao. After the death of Usui, Mr. Ushida became president of the association.
During this time, western countries did not know about Reiki. Today, Reiki is practiced in many different forms or branches. Usui Reiki was the original structure but as years passed, Reiki Masters merged the system or structure with other healing practices. Experts say that a Hawaiian lady named Mrs. Hawayo Takata brought the Usui Reiki to the western countries. She learned Usui Reiki from one of the students of Dr. Usui – Dr. Hayashi. Some say that Mrs. Takata was undergoing medical treatments for over four months and after Reiki, she was completely cured. After being attuned in 1938, Mrs. Takata practiced Reiki in the US. She taught 28 students in the US and all of them became Reiki Masters. Today, the number of Reiki Masters has increased considerably.
Usui Mikao’s aim was to create a healing practice which is not dominated by any boundaries or religion. No matter what your religion is, you’re free to practice Reiki because it will not disturb or affect religious practices.
Reiki has been around for many years. Usui founded Reiki in the 1900s and since then, it has reached different parts of the world. With Usui Reiki, you can stay connected to the Universal Life Energy. This energy surrounds the whole universe, if you want to achieve peaceful and healthy life, you need to tap unto this energy.
Usui introduced principles and practitioners of Reiki should be meditated on regularly. You need to know these principles so that you can conduct your life the proper way. Five of these are – no anger, no worry, be grateful, work hard, and be kind. As you can see, the principles may seem very easy but incorporating it in your life is a different thing. Keep these things in mind: You should not get angry or cause anger in other people; you should not worry too much and make sure you don’t cause worry in others; be grateful for the positive things in life and nice things to other people; you need to work hard and you should love what you’re doing; and you need to be kind to everyone and to all creatures.
You must realize that your body is an energy system. You need to accept this idea before undergoing any Usui Reiki. You should practice it daily since the method is useful and practical. Whether you have a chronic illness or simple bruises, Reiki can help. Thanks to Usui Mikao, people today have an alternative choice aside from the conventional medicines.
