In one year and four months, I have lost 70 pounds. I went from a size 26 in jeans to a size 14. I am 19 years old and my problem is, now that I have lost the weight, I need to tone up. I don’t have any money for a trainer, and the aerobic classes are too hard for me. What do you suggest I do to get my arms, legs and stomach in shape for the summer?
Congratulations on losing 70 pounds in 16 months! I’m sure you look and feel great. Now, to firm up your legs, arms and abdominals at home, I would suggest some light weight training. All you need to get are some hand and ankle weights. Work your lower body on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Work your upper body on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Take Sunday off, or maybe stretch that day.
It’s important, when you’re working out, to concentrate on correct form and really try to “feel” the muscles you are training. When you are working with light weights, and your own body’s weight as resistance, there is a tendency to go too fast and use momentum instead of control. When you feel like you’re stronger, you may want to progress to working with heavy weights at a gym. Perfect your form, use consistency and variety, and your muscles will gain strength and definition.
