I go to the gym four to six times a week. I have about 15 pounds to lose to be at a good weight for a person who’s 5 foot 11. When I work out I sweat, and I mean I’m soaked when I finish a 20- to 30-minute walk/run on the treadmill.
I feel good and like to work out but am afraid I become “offensive” to others when I sweat that much. Is there something I can do to reduce how much I sweat, or would that be more harmful to me?
Sweating is the body’s mechanism for regulating ideal body temperature. This is especially important when exercising and exerting greater physical effort, so don’t try to inhibit the process. Make sure you stay hydrated by drinking water throughout your exercise session.
If you’re worried about your neighbors, try wearing absorbent headbands and wristbands, and always keep a towel handy. Follow gym etiquette by wiping off the equipment when you’re done.
Don’t forget to include regular weight-resistance work in your routine to develop muscle mass, which will raise your metabolism and help you lose those 15 pounds.
