I have recently begun working out and walking. It seems that all the exercises only work legs, no matter which ones I do. The areas I am trying to get results on are my stomach and my hips, or “love handles.” Do you know of any particular exercises that will work these areas? I have heard that the love handles are the hardest area to get rid of. Right now, I have the typical “flat tire” look around my middle. Can you help me?
To get rid of your love handles, you need to pay close attention to your diet. Eat a healthy, low-fat diet with lots of veggies. Stay away from starchy foods, sodas and hidden calories in sauces, dips and condiments. You’ve got the right idea with your weight training and walking program. Do your weight training twice a week and your aerobics four to five times per week — at least 30 minutes per session.
While walking, remember to swing your arms, making sure you raise your back arm up with each step. This will cause your opposite arm to swing forward and your midsection to move. Remember to press your navel toward the spine on each exhale.
Love handles are really just areas of excess body fat, so losing overall weight will help reduce them. Along with brisk walking perform abdominal crunches to firm up the front of your abs and do back extensions to strengthen your back. Be consistent with this program and you’ll like what happens to your waistline!
