I’m a 16 year old girl who has just recently lost a lot of weight. I haven’t been trying; it just started happening. I can’t think of anything that I could be doing to lose this weight. What could be causing this?
Chances are, this is something as simple as a growth spurt or the hormonal changes of adolescence. But unexplained weight loss can also be a symptom of an underlying condition.
Call your doctor and make an appointment for a check-up, just to be sure you’re not overlooking something that needs to be treated.
You don’t mention how long you’ve been losing weight, and whether or not you are underweight for your height and frame.
If your weight is normal and your doctor says you’re fine, then your mom can stop worrying, and you can concentrate on eating a healthy, balanced diet, with an eye toward developing lifelong good eating habits.
However, if you continue to lose weight at this rate, you should go back to your doctor for a re-evaluation.
