Protecting Yourself From Summer And Winter Sun

Although the sun is our main source of Vitamin D, too much exposure to it could lead you to having bad looking skin and in some instances complex medical conditions that are sometimes fatal in nature. Nevertheless, having some protection from the ever present sun, whatever season it may be would be your best choice if you want to maintain healthy looking skin no matter what time of the year. So, here are the things that you should know about protecting yourself from summer and winter sun.

Summer Loving: Getting A Sun Kissed Experience

Summer would be the time of the year when the sun’s rays are at its strongest. Although avoiding the sun could be a temporary fix during this time, it is undeniable that you cannot avoid it forever. Of course, there are times when you have to go outdoors when the warmth of the sun would be welcoming you with open arms. So, here are some tips on how you can get some sun protection during summer.

Clothing

In regard to clothing, you should wear light colored and lightweight clothes. Be sure that you also have a lot of sunscreen protection both on your unexposed and exposed skin. This is done so that you can keep it cool and heat can escape from your body easily. If you don’t have a problem with overheating nor getting sunstroke, tightly woven dark colored clothing is effective in blocking UV rays. Clothing that has light colors still lets sunrays reach your skin.

Eyewear

Another form of protection from sun damage would be eyewear. Don’t simply protect your eyes; do not forget to put protection to the skin surrounding it too. Do this by wearing sunglasses which block 90-100% of UV rays produced by the sun.

Head Gear

Although it may seem hot on your head, wearing a hat is actually a good way to protect yourself. Although caps could be better and comfortable when jogging, try using a hat that has a wide brim so that it can shade your face and neck while doing activities such as gardening and walking outside.

Winter Blues: Battling The Sun During Cold Times

Although winter is a cold season, you may be led to believe that the sun would be the least of your problems every time this season comes along. However, that would be a mistake. The sun can still be a problem during winter, especially if you do not have the right protection with you. Here are some of the things that you should know about protecting yourself from the winter sun.

Use Sun Block

Do not be fooled by the concept that you should only use sun block during summer. It is important that you also use it during winter.  SPF 15 would be enough. However, if you plan on staying outside for a longer time, be sure to get a higher SPF rating.

Use Moisturizers

Although having a long, hot shower or bath could feel extremely comfortable whilst you’re indoors and away from the cold, you should take note that hot water will give you dry skin just as if it were summer. It’s recommended that you use as little amount of soap as possible. Doing this will help you avoid washing off your skin’s protective natural oils.

Be sure that as soon as you finish taking a bath, pat until your body dries up. Do not rub since doing so would just make your skin even drier. Immediately apply a moisturizing lotion. This keeps moisture locked in your skin. It also protects you from indoor dryness and various harsh elements that can be encountered outdoors. Don’t forget to put moisturizer on your face and hands too since these are the two areas of your body that may get a whole lot of exposure during winter.

Clothe Yourself The Right Way

If you are going out for a long period of time, or will be playing outdoor sports, you should prevent overheating and becoming too wet or cold. All of these cause dry skin.

For you to avoid all of them from happening, it is best that you dress up with clothing layers. Silk is the best to be next to your skin. It’s good in insulation, is lightweight, soft, and allows your skin to breath.
