A vegetarian diet fulfills all the nutritional requirements that the body needs in order to grow and maintain its essential functions. People often regret the fact that nature provides the essential items we need for survival, and that includes food.

Yes, you can argue that meat produces essential nutrients that our body needs. But you must also realize that vegetables, fruits, whole grains and other food substances included in a vegetarian diet contains nutrients that supplement for your body’s needs.

Once you learn how to combine various food substances and have a balanced diet, you can easily meet these nutritional requirements without having to consume meat and animal products.

Nutritional Components

For a better understanding of how your health benefits from a vegetarian diet, here is a list of the nutrients present in most vegetables:

-    Protein – This type of nutrient is present in plant sources as much as it is in meat. However, protein extracted from plant sources has been known to effectively provide elements that fight off diseases such as diabetes and liver diseases. Try mixing your protein diet by varying your choices of vegetarian food.

-    Carbohydrates – This is easily accessible when eating certain leafy greens and vegetables like legumes, grains, cereals, fruits, and other greens. Plus, carbohydrates obtained from plants also have starch, sugar, and fibers which aids in the functions of your gut. Carbohydrates, which are needed by the body, cannot be obtained from animal products.

-    Fat – This is certainly the ‘good’ type of fat. Meaning, it contains no cholesterol (unlike animal fats) and is less saturated.

-    Iron – To better absorb iron into your body, it is advised that you also increase your intake of Vitamin C. To get more vitamin C into your diet, include more citrus fruits or juices, and lime, among others.

More and more evidence is backing up the fact that vegetarian is definitely the way to go. High cholesterol and saturated fats are highly concentrated in most animal products or meats. And this is one of the leading causes of deaths and/or life-threatening diseases that plague society.

Analysis and research is continually done in order to address the rising health issue. Aside from utilizing herbs and plants to find remedies to most of these diseases, still nothing beats prevention. Therefore, it is important that you embark on a vegetarian diet now or risk yourself of acquiring the following serious diseases or conditions:
