Hair Restoration With Micro-Grafting

Micro-grafting is the procedure of hair restoration by transplanting healthy follicles into the bald areas of the scalp. A micro-graft contains hair follicles that include from one to three hairs per follicle.  These follicles make up the micro-graft donor patch. Micro-grafts are removed from a donor site, which is located on either the side or back of your scalp.

It is wise to get professional advice before you consider a treatment like this. Not all cases of baldness can be a candidate for surgery. There are issues for an individual to consider.

Filtering Candidates

Prior to the surgery, the physician should assess the general health of the patient. Likewise, the surgeon must determine any presence of bleeding disorders and extract information on the patient’s wound healing ability. This will provide assurance that the micro-graft procedure will be safe.  Sufficient information on the cost of the procedures to be performed should be given. This kind of procedure is for out-patient only and is considered low-risk.

Micro-grafting transplant

Hair transplanting is revolutionized with the discovery of micro-grafting. However, it is a meticulous procedure that involves inserting hair bit by bit into your scalp. This process would require implanting micro-grafts by the hundreds. Actually it is the healthy hair follicle that is needed here. Transplanting the hair follicle is the surest way to ensure new growths of hair.

Reduction of pain in the process

Micro-grafting is a process that is usually administered with local anesthesia to prevent the patient from feeling pain. With this numbing technique, the pain factor goes down. It allows the patient to be aware of what is going on without the uneasy feeling.   We discuss more about pain in an upcoming chapter.

How it is done

The following technique is used in performing micro-grafts:

The preparation for hair transplant will start by numbing your scalp with local anesthetic. This will be applied to both the donor and recipient sites. After that, the donor area is measured then hair is trimmed a little.

The scalp will be given an injection filled with saline solution. This solution makes tissue-removal easier. The donor material is then removed. It will be in the form of long strips. These strips of tissue are removed by using a scalpel. An incision will be made deep enough to include your healthy hair follicles.

The area of hair to be removed is trimmed or cut close to the scalp. Then the desired amount of donor hair and skin are removed.

The donor skin and hair that was removed is then processed for division, under magnification.  Then they will be placed at almost exactly the correct pattern and direction of your natural hair. This donor site is sutured, covered with a bandage and closed. A little scarring will result but is only detectable by close scrutiny. This should pose no alarm since the area will be covered with hair growth in no time.

Advantage of Micro-grafting

A Micro-graft transplant procedure is advantageous for those who require a small quantity of strand replacements. If you have quite a large quantity of hair to be replaced, this is a time consuming procedure.

Micro-grafting will allow your hair to have a more natural appearance compared to previous methods of hair restoration. You will have a hairline that looks soft and natural. Undergoing patching by a large graft will look rough in its overall appearance.

Thus, the Micro-grafting technique has made it possible for a natural hairline to be achieved. To contrast it with the “corn-row” appearance, which is a result of larger-graft procedures, micro-grafting is a better option by far. It saves the person from the embarrassing stares of other people. That is due to the fact that your hair will grow in the most normal way from the scalp. This procedure also allows the growth of the normal number of hairs that are intended to grow in it. With the procedure correctly done, you cannot spot the difference.

You will notice that your new transplanted hair will grow at the same rate as the other areas on your scalp. It will also maintain the same color.

Your hair will begin to grow again in a matter of 6 to 24 weeks from the day of the procedure. This is a new and healthy outgrowth that will not fall out as before. Restoring your hair will take years from your appearance. This will certainly boost your confidence and self-esteem.
